Reminders:
- Immunizations (tetanus booster every 10 years; annual flu shot; pneumonia vaccine at ages 64 and 65; shingles vaccine at age >50)
- Pap smear: Don’t perform Pap smears on women younger than 21 or who have had a hysterectomy for non-cancer disease. Start at 21 and then every 1-2 years depending on type of smear test done, Don’t screen women younger than 30 years of age for cervical cancer with HPV testing, alone or in combination with cytology..
- Don’t screen women older than 65 years of age for cervical cancer who have had adequate prior screening and are not otherwise at high risk for cervical cancer.
- Mammogram (baseline at age 40 and then annually, but family history must be taken into account)
- Bone density (baseline when at menopause, but definitely at age 65 and then repeat every two years)
- Colonoscopy (baseline at age 50 if no family history of colon cancer). No routine screening needed after age 75. Do not repeat colorectal cancer screening (by any method) for 10 years after a high-quality colonoscopy is negative in average-risk individuals. Do not repeat colonoscopy for at least five years for patients who have one or two small (< 1 cm) adenomatous polyps, without high-grade dysplasia, completely removed via a high-quality colonoscopy.
